ABOUT Us & GATE

 

High Standards and Quality Education:
We as educators, at School of Science and Technology-Alamo, continually strive towards maintaining the high academic standards that will powerfully propel us into the 21st century. Because of our supportive parents, the faculty, and staff, we have the ability to guides students beyond community and state mandated expectations. The faculty, staff, and administrators at SST- are caring, competent, dedicated, and willing to assist you and your child achieving a high level of education. We are working very hard to provide the very best possible learning enviornment for all of our students.

 

Advanced Academic Services:

SST guarantees an array of learning opportunities that commensurate with abilities of gifted/talented students. The school-wide enrichment model (STEM), mentoring, CRLP, independent study, research projects, Science Fair, and many other enhancement programs for creativity and thinking skills are some of the benefits of being in our GATE program.



STATE GT Mandates:

§2.1 A Identified gifted/talented students are assured an array of learning opportunities that are commensurate with their abilities and that emphasize content in the four (4) foundation curricular areas. Services are available during the school day as well as the entire school year. Parents are informed of these options (19 TAC §89.3(3)). §


2.2A -Gifted/talented students are ensured opportunities to work together as a group, work with other students, and work independently during the school day as well as the entire school year as a direct result of gifted/talented service options (19 TAC §89.3(1)).

Identification Process
 
Nomination

Students are nomintated by their parents and/or teachers during the nomination window.  

     *The noination window for Kindergarten students, and students who are new to the campus is September 1-16, 2015.  

     *The nomination window for returning students is January 1-16, 2016.  

 

Testing

Students are assessed through both qualitative and quantitative instruments which inculde: CogAT, MAP, Renzulli-Heartman, and Purdue Teacher Rating Scales, along with parent nomination.  

*Once nominated, Kindergardent and new students will be tested during the fall semester.  The testing window for new students is October 1-31, 2015

*Returning students will be tested during the spring semester.  The testing window for returning students is Feburary 1- March 31, 2016



Selection

Each student who is nominated and tested is individually evaluated by the G/T Committee and a final decision is made at that time.

*Students who are accepted into the program in the fall , will start to recieve services in January, 2015. 

* Stuents who are accepted into the program in the spring, will start to recive services the following Fall semester.
